▸ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is SeatRisk™ and how does it work as an office break timer?
SeatRisk™ is a free gamified office break timer that turns desk wellness into a game. While you work, your virtual net worth grows at $2/minute but your health score slowly drains. If you sit continuously for over 60 minutes or let your health hit zero, it's Game Over. Take breaks to recover health, pick a movement activity, then roll the dice for bonus cash rewards. The longer you keep a healthy work-break rhythm, the more you earn.
How is this different from a regular Pomodoro timer?
A standard Pomodoro timer just counts down and alerts you. SeatRisk™ adds a loss-aversion mechanic (watching your health drain in real time is more motivating than a countdown), a variable reward system (dice rolls keep breaks exciting), a persistent leaderboard, and a session log showing exactly what exercise you did on each break. It's designed to keep you coming back and make breaks feel rewarding rather than like an interruption.
How do the dice rolls work and what can I win?
After each completed break, a dice roll becomes available. The six faces correspond to cash rewards: +$100, +$500, +$1,000, +$2,000, +$4,000 (jackpot!), or −$200. The odds shift in your favor the more breaks you've taken — the jackpot probability increases with each break up to 20 breaks, rewarding consistent healthy habits. You must complete a minimum 10-minute work session before a break (and roll) is valid, which prevents gaming the system.
Why do the Ergonomic Chair and Standing Desk reset daily?
The daily reset is intentional game design. It creates a recurring meaningful choice: do you invest $2,000 today for reduced health drain, or save the money? This mirrors real-life ergonomic investment decisions and keeps the game fresh each day instead of being a one-time unlock that trivializes the health mechanic.
Is there a scientific basis for the 45-minute work limit?
No magic "45-minute rule" exists in the medical literature. SeatRisk uses 45 minutes as a practical default game setting — not a medical prescription. Research supports breaking up prolonged sitting, but optimal frequency varies by person. A 2024 systematic review suggested breaks every 30 minutes may benefit glucose control; a 2026 meta-analysis of 53 studies found 15–20 minute intervals had the largest effect on postprandial glucose. Consensus: move more, sit less, break it up — the exact interval matters less than actually doing it. You can change the default to 30 or 60 minutes in Settings.
Is the 60-minute hard kill a medical rule?
No. The 60-minute hard kill is a game rule — a deliberately strict penalty designed to make uninterrupted sitting impossible to ignore. It is not a medical threshold; it is a game mechanic that creates real stakes.

The game is inspired by research linking prolonged sedentary behavior with health risks. It is not a medical device or medical advice.
